Youth Internet Governance Forum (YIGF) Nepal is a youth Initiative formed to encourage and involve young people in a substantive discussion on the Issues of Internet Governance. This year it's happening on the 14th of September. This Fellowship is intended to provide opportunities to the youths residing outside of Kathmandu Valley.
Youth IGF Nepal announces applications for their 2024 Fellowship Program. Youth IGF Nepal organizes annual events, such as the Youth Internet Governance Forum Nepal (YIGF Nepal), which brings together young individuals from various backgrounds to discuss and exchange ideas on Internet governance issues. In addition to these events, Youth IGF Nepal conducts research and advocacy activities to raise awareness and influence policy on Internet governance in Nepal.
The Youth IGF Nepal Fellowship Program is designed to ensure that young people from different backgrounds and regions of Nepal have equal opportunities to participate in Youth IGF Nepal events and engage in discussions on Internet governance issues. This is crucial as Internet governance has far-reaching implications for society and the economy, and it is vital that young people’s perspectives and experiences are included in decision-making processes related to the Internet.
The Youth IGF Nepal 2024 event, initiated by the Youth Internet Governance Forum (YIGF) Nepal, will be hosted by the Internet Society Nepal Chapter, legally registered as Open Internet Nepal. This year’s event focuses on encouraging and involving young people in substantive discussions on Internet governance issues. It provides a platform for young people to exchange experiences and learn about emerging Internet governance topics such as the digital divide, universal access, AI governance, freedom of expression online, and more.
This year, fellowship opportunities are being offered for participants outside of Kathmandu Valley, with three participants being selected from each of Nepal’s seven provinces. During the fellowship selection process, priority will be given to female participants and representatives from indigenous and marginalized communities. This approach aims to empower young people and amplify their voices on a national, regional, and global level, ensuring that economic barriers do not prevent attendance.
Through the Annual Youth IGF Nepal event, the aim is to promote the multi-stakeholder model of Internet governance in decision-making and advocate for the involvement of young people in policy and decision-making processes. The event also provides opportunities for young people to share best practices and experiences, identify emerging issues, and bring them to the attention of relevant bodies and the general public.
The application deadline is 9th August 2024. Youth IGF Nepal looks forward to your participation in the Youth IGF Nepal 2024 Fellowship Program!
