CREASION announces the Call for Proposals for the Plastic Waste & Upcycling Enterprises Grant!
This grant is a part of the GreenShift Nepal Project aiming to enhance the capacity of plastic waste enterprises and upcycling enterprises. 
𝐒𝐢𝐱 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 will be selected from 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢, 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐡, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐢 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬. Each enterprise will receive a grant amount up to 𝐍𝐑𝐒 𝟐,𝟎𝟎𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎.

About the Project

Green Shift: Circularity of Plastic Waste for Net-Zero Carbon Nepal (Green Shift Nepal) project is funded by the European Union to promote a just transition to a circular economy. Green Shift  Nepal is a four-year project that will be implemented in nine municipalities – three in each of  Bagmati, Madhesh, and Lumbini provinces. The project implementation is led by CREASION  through the consortium partners Restless Development, and Youth Innovation Lab (YI-LAB). Green Shift Nepal will work with waste enterprises, SMEs, CSOs of waste workers, youths,  schoolchildren, and three tiers of government in the promotion of a circular economy of plastics.  The project intends to: build the capacity of waste enterprises to improve their plastic waste collection efficiency; support SMEs for the promotion of plastic alternative products and packaging; work with school children in generating knowledge and awareness; engage youths in  leading advocacy and awareness campaigns; and enhance the capacity of three tiers of government for inclusive and evidence-based policies through the active involvement of youths and 
CSOs of waste workers to move towards the circularity of plastics.

Specific Objective

  1. The major objective of the private waste enterprise grant is:
  2. To enhance the technical and technological capacity of enterprises to increase their efficiency 
    for plastic waste collection and processing. 

About the Private Waste Enterprise Grant

The private waste enterprises working in the Bagmati, Lumbini, and Madhesh provinces are eligible for application. Initially, out of all the applicants, 10 enterprises will be selected, that will receive orientation and capacity-building training. Following this training, these 10 enterprises will be required to submit a full proposal and action plan to be considered for a financial grant. Based on the evaluation of the proposals and pitches developed by each enterprise, financial grants will be awarded to six enterprises (3 in Bagmati, 2 in Madhesh, and 1 in Lumbini Province). 

Why apply for this grant?

The selected enterprises will have the following benefits:
1. Financial grant: The final six selected enterprises will each receive a grant amount of NRS 2,000,000. 
2. Training on organizational management: The selected enterprises will be given organizational management training to identify their needs and help develop an action plan.
3. Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (OHSE) training to minimize the risks associated with waste sorting to provide to the waste workers associated with the enterprises.
4. Network strengthening and collaboration: The selected enterprises will receive access to a network of other enterprises which can lead to shared resources and collective problem-solving.

Eligibility Criteria

Private waste enterprises registered in Bagmati, Madhesh, and Lumbini provinces are eligible to apply. Priorities will be given to

  1. Private Waste Enterprises: For this project, Private Waste Enterprises are companies that are involved in waste collection, segregation, and/or waste co processing, and upcycling. The term “Waste co-processing" here means preparing waste for recycling, which includes segregation, baling, shredding, and washing. The following table outlines the private waste enterprises that will be considered for this application call.
  2. Registration Status: Only formal waste enterprises, registered according to the laws of the government that fit the above-mentioned criteria will be considered for this project activity. 
  3. Prior Work Experience: Private Waste Enterprises should have at least one year's experience of successful operation in waste collection and management.
