In a collaborative effort between the National Policy Forum (NPF) and CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Lavasa - The Hub of Analytics (Pune, Maharashtra), a successful 3-day certificate webinar titled "Nepal and India: Bridging Legal Systems Through Comparative Education" was held from June 5th to 7th, 2024.
The webinar offered law students comprehensive insights into the evolving legal landscapes and educational practices of Nepal and India. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to learn about various undergraduate and graduate programs at Christ (Deemed to be) University, including attractive scholarship opportunities for international students.
The 3-day event featured the following key sessions:
Day 1:
- Speaker: Professor Dr. Anto Sebastian, Head of Department, School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus
- Topic: "Impact of Solitary Confinement: A Critical Analysis" - This session examined the psychological, social, and legal implications of solitary confinement in both countries.
Day 2:
-Speaker: Professor Sugam Shine, School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus
- Topic: "Navigating Corporate Insolvency in India: A Comprehensive Guide for Aspiring Professionals" - Participants gained practical knowledge on corporate insolvency laws and procedures in India, with expert guidance for future legal professionals.
Day 3
- Speaker: Professor Prabhpreet Singh, Assistant Professor, School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus
- Topic: "Comparative Study of Freedom of Speech in India & Nepal: A Judicial Analysis" - This session explored the constitutional provisions, judicial interpretations, and contemporary challenges related to freedom of speech in both nations.
With over 80 participants having attended all three (3) sessions representing more than thirty (30) different colleges and universities, they had the opportunity to delve into various aspects of legal education, compare jurisprudential approaches, and understand the nuances of legal reforms in both countries. This enriching experience will be invaluable for their future research, moot court competitions, and overall legal acumen. By engaging with leading scholars and gaining a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences between Nepalese and Indian legal systems, attendees are now better equipped to navigate and contribute to the global legal landscape.
